AMNS Faces Rs 18 Crore Fine as Surat Authorities Demolish Illegal Encroachments
Surat Launches Major Demolition Campaign, AMNS Fined for Illegal Land Occupation
Surat Authorities Initiate Massive Demolition Drive
Surat District Collector has launched a major demolition campaign targeting illegal encroachments on national highways and government lands. The operation, ongoing for the past few days, has already led to the removal of multiple unauthorized structures, with ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AMNS) being the primary target for occupying government land illegally.
Encroachment and Penalty
Following a detailed investigation, the authorities discovered that AMNS had encroached on approximately 80,000 square meters of government land. The company was fined Rs 18 crore for the encroachment, and the reclaimed land has been cleared.
18 Cases Registered, 10 Against AMNS
Out of the 18 cases filed with Choriyasi Mamlatdar, 10 were found against AMNS. Evidence confirmed that the company had unlawfully occupied public land, violating government regulations. Legal action, including the imposition of fines, has been initiated.
Authorities Plan Further Action
This operation is not limited to AMNS. Encroachments in Hazira, Pandesara, Udhna, and other industrial areas will also be addressed. Officials have confirmed that further demolition and legal actions will continue against other violators.
Ongoing Investigation
Mamlatdar Nirav Paritosh stated that investigations are underway in additional cases, with decisions expected soon. The district administration remains committed to freeing public land from illegal encroachments.
Industrial Safety Concerns at AMNS
This incident adds to AMNS’s troubles, as the company recently faced two accidents within a month. In one tragic incident, a lift collapse led to a fatality, while another fire incident in December claimed the lives of four workers.
The Surat Collector’s strict stance against encroachments has set a precedent, serving as a warning to other industries operating unlawfully on government land.
