Heroic Surat Cop Carries Poisoned Girl Through Muddy Field, Saves Her Life
Life-Saving Act by Surat Police Officer Wins Praise After Dramatic Field Rescue
In an inspiring display of courage and humanity, Head Constable Ajmalbhai Vardaji of the Surat Police risked his own safety to save a young woman’s life on April 15.
At 5:03 PM, the police control room received an emergency alert that a young woman had consumed poison in a field near Vitraag Lawns, opposite Poojan Plaza in the Saroli area. Responding immediately, Constable Ajmalbhai—who was in charge of PCR Van-66—rushed to the location.
However, the site was deep inside a muddy, waterlogged field where no vehicle, including the PCR van or ambulance, could reach. Without hesitation, Ajmalbhai entered the field on foot. After navigating through difficult terrain, he located the woman unconscious inside a hut-like shelter.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation and the impossibility of waiting for an ambulance, he lifted the young woman onto his shoulder and began carrying her back through the mud. With the main gate locked, he even scaled a small wall while carrying her, showing remarkable physical and mental strength.
Ajmalbhai then placed the woman in the PCR van and started driving toward the nearest medical facility. Midway, they encountered an arriving 108 ambulance, to which the woman was transferred and taken immediately to SMIMER Hospital for treatment.
Throughout the journey, Ajmalbhai continued speaking with her to keep her conscious, a crucial step in preventing the poison from having a fatal effect. His presence of mind and compassion played a vital role in saving her life.
Following the incident, senior police officials, including Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot, Special Police Commissioner (Sector 01), DCP Zone-01, and ACP “B” Division, praised Constable Ajmalbhai’s bravery. The police department’s “C Team” later conducted counseling for the young woman to ensure her emotional well-being and to prevent any recurrence of such an attempt.
