Another case of HMPV (Human Metapneumovirus) has been reported in Gujarat, bringing the total number of cases in the state to 8. A 4-year-old child from the Gota area of Ahmedabad tested positive for HMPV. The child, who was suffering from fever, cold, and cough, was admitted to SGVP Hospital on SG Highway for treatment. The test was conducted after the child was hospitalized on January 28, and the report came back positive. The child has no travel history, either domestic or international.
State Reports a Total of 8 HMPV Cases
The first HMPV case in Gujarat was reported on January 6, although the case had actually been identified on December 26 at a private hospital in Ahmedabad’s Chandkheda area. However, the hospital reported it to the authorities late, leading to the public announcement on January 6. Since then, between December 26 and January 28, a total of 8 positive HMPV cases have been reported, including 5 children and 3 adults.
The children experienced symptoms such as cold, cough, fever, and chest congestion, while the elderly patients showed signs of asthma, dry cough, and cold. None of the patients had any travel history, and they were all hospitalized for treatment. Four of the patients have since been discharged.
Details of Other Reported Cases:
On January 9, a 7-year-old child from the Prantij area, working with their family in a farm, tested positive for HMPV after being admitted to a hospital in Himmatnagar due to symptoms of fever, cold, and cough. The diagnosis of pneumonia was confirmed, and the report came back positive on January 9.
An 80-year-old man from Vastrapur, Ahmedabad, tested positive for HMPV on January 9. He had been admitted to a hospital in Memnagar on January 8. The elderly man had a history of asthma but no travel history.
On January 10, a 9-month-old child from South Bopal, Ahmedabad, also tested positive for HMPV after being admitted to a private hospital on January 6 with symptoms of cold, cough, and difficulty breathing. The child had no travel history.
A 59-year-old man from Kutch tested positive for HMPV on January 11 and was admitted to a hospital in Ahmedabad’s Thaltej area for treatment. He had no travel history.
On January 13, another 4-year-old child from Krishna Nagar, Ahmedabad, tested positive for HMPV and was admitted to Zydus Hospital for treatment. The child had no travel history.
No Need for Panic
Authorities have emphasized that there is no need for panic over HMPV, as the cases are being monitored and treated.
