IPL 2025: RCB Captain Rajat Patidar Fined After Victory Over MI – BCCI Imposes Penalty

Despite a thrilling win against the Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar has been penalized by the BCCI. In the 20th match of IPL 2025, RCB secured a 12-run victory over Mumbai, marking their third win in four matches. Meanwhile, Mumbai suffered their fourth loss in five games.

RCB posted a formidable total of 221/5, and in response, Hardik Pandya’s MI could only manage 209/9 in 20 overs.

BCCI Fines Patidar for Slow Over Rate

Following the match, the BCCI announced that Rajat Patidar was fined for maintaining a slow over rate during the game. As this was RCB’s first offense of the season, Patidar was fined ₹12 lakh under Clause 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offenses.

Patidar becomes the fourth captain in IPL 2025 to be penalized for a slow over rate, joining the likes of Hardik Pandya, Riyan Parag, and Rishabh Pant.

Player of the Match Performance

Ironically, Patidar was also named Player of the Match for his stellar batting performance. He smashed 64 runs off just 32 balls, playing a key role in setting up RCB’s high total, alongside a strong knock from Virat Kohli.

In the bowling department, Krunal Pandya starred by taking 4 wickets for 45 runs in his four overs, effectively halting Mumbai’s chase. Tilak Varma was the top scorer for MI with 56 runs, but it wasn’t enough to take them over the line.
