Breaking Stereotypes: Taste for Life’s All Women Sales Team leads the way in FMCG

Taste for Life, founded by Mr. Mandar Deshpande, began its journey with a single product: wheat atta. Over time, the brand has grown and expanded its range to premium bhakari atta and a convenient range of ready mixes. Today, it is a trusted brand in Mumbai and has become a staple in many kitchens.

With an outstanding product line, it’s the sales team that plays a vital role in the remarkable success of Taste for Life.

In an industry where the sales department is often considered a male-dominated field, Taste for Life has an all-women sales team, headed by Mrs. Minal Deshpande.

“Our queens of Jhansi (sales team) work tirelessly in the field, connecting with the distributors, dealing with the shopkeepers, and ensuring that Taste for Life’s Products are available at every nook and corner of Mumbai,” says Mrs. Deshpande (Founder, sales director).

Initially, the department started with two women and has since grown to over 60 female staff members, who manage everything smoothly.

Working with the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) comes with its own set of challenges. Taste for Life products are fresh & perishable, which means strict adherence to the FIFO practices (First In, First Out) is essential. This demands consistent coordination between distributors and retailers. Also, building the shopkeeper’s confidence is mandatory. Once the products are available in stores, promoters are placed to build trust among the shopkeepers. These promoters answer customer queries, distribute trial packs, and ensure that customers like and accept the products.

“We provide training to our sales team and even accompany them on field visits. Today, Taste for Life’s products are available in 1800+ retail stores, Apna Bazar, Sahakar Bhandar, and D-Mart Ready outlets across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai & Thane region.” – Sales Head, Taste for Life.

“The formation of an all-women team was not a planned strategy, but an organic progression. These women earned their roles through their performance and dedication”, says Mr. Deshpande.

The women of the sales team bring more than just hard work; they bring attention to detail and deep commitment to building relationships. Retailers trust them, and consumers are welcoming the brand with open arms.

Taste for Life stands as the best example of women’s empowerment, strong leadership, and quality-driven growth in the Indian FMCG sector.
