The Gujarat government had earlier announced new, stringent rules for the registration of pre-primary schools. However, these rules faced opposition from pre-school operators due to their severity. The Gujarat Independent Pre-School Association submitted a representation to the Chief Minister, Education Minister, and other officials, requesting changes to these regulations. In response, the government has decided to make revisions, following discussions between school operators’ representatives and senior education department officials. These changes will be implemented shortly.
Key Changes:
Instead of a 15-year registered lease agreement, a 5-year notarized lease agreement will be acceptable.
The annual registration fee of ₹5,000 per class will now be replaced with a single fee of ₹10,000 for the entire school.
The registration deadline for pre-primary schools has been extended from February to six months.
Relief for School Operators:
There had been considerable opposition from school operators regarding the initial set of rules. With the government addressing their concerns, there is now visible satisfaction among the operators. The state government is expected to make an official announcement regarding these changes soon.
