Fortuner Legender vs. Rivals: How It Competes with Jeep Meridian & MG Gloster

Toyota Fortuner Legender Launched with Manual Gearbox at ₹46.36 Lakh

Toyota India has introduced a manual transmission variant of its popular full-size SUV, the Fortuner Legender, in the Indian market. However, the manual gearbox option is available exclusively with the 4×4 (four-wheel drive) setup, while the rear-wheel drive (RWD) variant continues to be offered only with an automatic transmission.

No Mechanical or Design Changes

Apart from the new transmission option, Toyota has made no mechanical or design changes to the Fortuner Legender. The SUV retains its Platinum White Pearl exterior with a contrasting black roof, giving it a bold and premium look.

The manual variant is priced at ₹46.36 lakh (ex-showroom), making it ₹3.73 lakh more affordable than the 4×4 automatic variant. Bookings for this new model are now open at Toyota dealerships across India.

Enhanced Safety & Features

Toyota continues to prioritize safety in the Fortuner Legender, equipping it with 7 airbags, vehicle stability control, hill assist, ABS with EBD, and multiple driver-assistance features, ensuring a secure and smooth driving experience.

Market Competition

The Fortuner Legender competes with the Jeep Meridian (₹24.99-₹38.79 lakh), Skoda Kodiaq (₹37.99-₹41.39 lakh), and MG Gloster (₹39.57-₹44.03 lakh) in the premium SUV segment. However, unlike the Meridian and Gloster, which do not offer a manual gearbox with a 4×4 system, the Fortuner Legender stands out as a unique choice for off-road enthusiasts.

Key Specifications:

  • Engine: 2.8L diesel engine
  • Power Output: 204 PS
  • Torque: 500 Nm (automatic) / 420 Nm (manual)
  • Transmission: 6-speed manual / 6-speed automatic
  • Drive Type: 4×4 manual & RWD automatic options
  • Safety Features: 7 airbags, ABS, hill assist, traction control

With this launch, Toyota strengthens its presence in the premium SUV segment, offering a perfect balance of power, safety, and off-road capability with the added thrill of a manual transmission for adventure seekers.
