Celebrating a Decade of Commitment to User Security

For over 10 years, WhatsApp has continuously evolved, introducing groundbreaking features that prioritize user safety and privacy. From its first privacy feature, Read Receipts in 2014, to the recently launched Group Context Card in 2024, WhatsApp has remained at the forefront of secure digital communication in a fast-paced, connected world.

Empowering Users Through Privacy-First Features

WhatsApp’s journey of innovation is anchored in empowering users with tools to control their privacy and safety while maintaining meaningful connections. Key privacy features, including End-to-End Encryption, Disappearing Messages, Two-Step Verification, View-Once Media, and Blocking and Reporting Mechanisms, exemplify the platform’s dedication to secure communication.

WhatsApp’s Privacy Showcase in India

In 2024, WhatsApp underscored its commitment to user safety by hosting a Privacy Showcase in India. During the event, Alice Newton-Rex, VP Head of Product at WhatsApp, stated,
“The need for private, intimate conversations is and always will be central to WhatsApp – privacy is at the core of everything we do. With hundreds of millions of Indians using WhatsApp, we remain deeply committed to providing people with ultimate control over their messaging experience and keeping them safe online.”

Pioneering Innovations Beyond Messaging

In 2024, WhatsApp integrated Meta AI, allowing users to seamlessly explore AI as part of their messaging experience. The inclusion of Meta AI in Hindi further empowered Indian users to interact with technology in more personalized ways.
WhatsApp also introduced Channels, enabling verified organizations, news outlets, and fact-checkers to provide credible updates directly to users, especially during periods of information overload.

Commitment to Online Safety

WhatsApp has consistently invested in cutting-edge technology, artificial intelligence, and expert teams to combat platform abuse and promote online safety. Monthly safety reports highlight the proactive measures taken by WhatsApp, including the banning of accounts engaged in suspicious or malicious activities. In 2024 alone, over 73.6 million accounts were banned in India, with 13.7 million bans executed between January and October proactively.
