AIIMS Delhi Revolutionizes Surgery with Surgical Robots: Faster Recovery and Shorter Hospital Stays

AIIMS Delhi has introduced surgical robots for general surgeries, making it the first hospital in India to use this advanced technology. This new development promises to significantly improve patient outcomes by reducing recovery times and the number of days spent in the hospital.

Advantages of Surgical Robots
The key benefit of surgical robots is their ability to magnify the area being operated on and provide a 3D view for better precision. Surgeons can also use robotic arms to reach complex or difficult-to-access areas, allowing for highly accurate surgeries without affecting surrounding tissues. Dr. Hemang Bhattacharjee, Professor of Surgery at AIIMS, explains that with the help of this technology, complex surgeries such as colorectal, esophagectomy, and pancreatic surgeries can be performed with minimal complications.

Benefits for Patients
Surgical robots will enable patients to recover faster due to smaller and more precise incisions. Unlike traditional surgeries that often involve large cuts, robotic surgery only requires minimal incisions, speeding up the healing process. As a result, patients will experience shorter hospital stays and quicker recoveries. Additionally, this service will be available to all patients, regardless of their financial status, as the government is committed to making this technology accessible in both private and public hospitals.

Training Future Surgeons
AIIMS Delhi is not only benefiting patients but also medical students. The institution is currently training 100 students in robotic surgery, positioning AIIMS as one of the world’s leading medical technology institutes.
