ArcelorMittal Hazira Faces Rs. 18 Crore Fine for Illegally Occupying Government Land

AMNS Slapped with Rs. 18 Crore Penalty for Breaching Land Usage Regulations in Hazira

Surat, Hazira: ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AMNS) has been slapped with a hefty fine of Rs. 18 crore by the Choryasi Mamlatdar for illegally occupying government land in Hazira. The company has been found guilty of breaching terms and encroaching on thousands of acres of government land over the years.

The issue has been raised multiple times by local residents, with complaints filed in front of various district collectors. In total, 18 complaints were registered, and 10 of these cases were heard by the Choryasi Mamlatdar, who subsequently imposed the fine and ordered the company to vacate the encroached land.

Residents have also raised concerns about pollution caused by the company’s operations, especially the slag released from the plant. In response, the local authorities have begun hearing complaints about environmental pollution, and the company has been under scrutiny for its actions.

This fine is part of a larger series of legal issues for the AMNS Hazira plant, which has faced growing criticism in recent months due to a series of accidents, including the tragic deaths of four workers in December. Recently, another lift malfunction at the plant resulted in the death of a worker, further escalating concerns about safety and management practices at the plant.

The Choryasi Mamlatdar’s ruling comes as part of the ongoing investigation into AMNS’s environmental and legal violations. The company has been instructed to clear the encroached land, which will be monitored by local authorities.
