Asit Modi Opens Up About Disha Vakani’s Return to Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah: New Auditions for Dayaben Role as Challenges Continue
The speculation surrounding Disha Vakani’s return to the iconic TV show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has been ongoing for quite some time. Recently, the show’s producer, Asit Modi, addressed these rumors in a candid interview. While Modi expressed his desire for Disha to reprise her role as Dayaben, he stated that it is now increasingly difficult for her to return to the show.
Disha Vakani, who has been missing from the show since September 2017 due to maternity leave, has not made a comeback despite several attempts and discussions regarding her return. Asit Modi explained that the character of Dayaben is crucial for the show, and he personally misses her on screen. He acknowledged that there have been several delays and reasons for this, including events such as the 2024 elections, the IPL, and the World Cup, as well as seasonal factors like the monsoon, which have caused interruptions in the shooting schedules.
However, Modi made it clear that the situation has become more challenging over time. He pointed out that Disha’s life has changed significantly since her marriage, and with two young children, balancing her family life with the demands of the show has become difficult. Despite these challenges, Modi remains hopeful, adding that he still wishes Disha would return, even though he feels that it is unlikely at this point.
In light of the situation, Asit Modi revealed that auditions are currently underway for a new actress to play the role of Dayaben. If the right actress is found, she will be welcomed onto the show. He mentioned that while he would love for Disha to return, the production team is prepared to move forward if necessary and introduce a new Dayaben for the fans.
Asit Modi, in a light-hearted comment, even joked that perhaps he himself might end up playing the character of Dayaben if the need arises. He emphasized the strong personal bond he shares with Disha and her family, describing her as like a sister to him. He also shared that Disha’s father and brother are considered family by him, making the situation all the more emotional.
Disha Vakani, who married Mumbai-based CA Mayur Padia in 2015, gave birth to a daughter in November 2017. Though she had taken a maternity break, the last public appearance related to the show was in 2019 when she made a brief phone appearance with Jethalal’s character. During that time, reports claimed that Disha had set specific conditions for her return, including a higher pay rate and limited working hours, which caused further complications in her potential return.
While fans continue to hope for her return, it remains uncertain whether Disha Vakani will be able to reprise her beloved role of Dayaben in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah in the future.
