Trump’s Tariff War Alarms 50 Countries; U.S. Claims They’re Ready for Negotiations

Following President Donald Trump’s imposition of new tariffs, top U.S. administration officials have stated that more than 50 countries have reached out to the White House to begin trade negotiations. This development comes amid global concern, as Trump’s tariff announcements have triggered significant turmoil in stock markets both in the United States and around the world, raising fears of a potential recession.

During a televised appearance, senior economic advisors to President Trump framed the tariffs as a strategic effort to restore America’s position in the global trade system. Treasury Secretary Scott Besant claimed that since the announcement last Wednesday, over 50 countries have shown willingness to negotiate with the U.S., which he said has strengthened Trump’s leverage.

However, neither Besant nor other officials disclosed which countries had made contact or provided any concrete details about the proposed negotiations. Managing discussions with so many nations simultaneously could prove challenging for the Trump administration and may further contribute to global economic uncertainty.

Besant dismissed concerns over the recent market volatility, arguing that there is no reason to expect a recession solely due to the tariffs. He noted that U.S. employment was already on the rise even before the latest tariff announcements.

Trump’s sweeping tariffs on imported goods have unsettled global markets and triggered retaliatory actions, most notably from China. These developments have intensified fears of an escalating trade war and a broader economic slowdown.
