India Takes Strict Action Against Cheap Chinese Imports: Anti-Dumping Duty Imposed on Four Products
India’s Move Against China
India has taken strict action against the import of cheap Chinese goods by imposing an anti-dumping duty for five years. China was exporting products such as aluminum foil, vacuum flasks, soft ferrite cores, and trichloroisocyanuric acid to India at low prices. In response, the Indian government has now levied duties on these products to protect domestic industries.
Action Taken Based on DGTR’s Recommendation
This decision aims to safeguard Indian industries, especially the steel sector, from the impact of cheap imports. The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) recommended imposing the duty, and the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has issued official notifications confirming the move.
Temporary Duty on Aluminum Foil
The Indian government has temporarily imposed an anti-dumping duty on aluminum foil imports from China for six months. Additionally, a duty ranging from $276 to $986 per ton has been imposed on acid imports from China and Japan.
India’s Previous Actions Against Chinese Goods
In October 2024, India imposed an anti-dumping duty on five Chinese products, including glass mirrors and cellophane transparent films, for five years. Other affected products included isopropyl alcohol, sulfur black, thermoplastic polyurethane, and frameless glass mirrors. These goods were being imported at below-market prices, harming local manufacturers. The CBIC issued five separate notifications confirming that the duty would remain in effect for five years.
