On Akhatrij, Not Just Gold — Cars Also Get Pricier! New Prices Implemented for Vehicles from Suzuki to BMW, Maruti Increases Prices for the Third Time

Maruti Suzuki has announced updated prices for four of its models — WagonR, Fronx, XL6, and Ertiga — based on new variant introductions. The prices of these vehicles have risen by up to ₹14,000. In March 2025, the company had indicated that car prices would be revised upward starting from April.

Additionally, Maruti has updated the safety features of the WagonR. The prices of the Maruti Grand Vitara and Eeco have also been increased, with both now offering six airbags as standard. The Grand Vitara has received several new feature upgrades as well.

Third Price Hike in 2025
In an exchange filing, Maruti Suzuki stated that the price hikes were necessary due to rising raw material and operational costs. So far in 2025, the company has raised prices three times.

  • The first hike occurred in January 2025, with increases of up to 4%.

  • The second followed in February 2025, with price rises between 1% and 4%, depending on the model.

Other automobile companies, including Hyundai Motor India, Mahindra & Mahindra, Mercedes-Benz, Renault India, Kia Motors, Honda, BMW, and Audi, have also announced price increases effective from April 2025.

Maruti’s Sales Grew by 3% in March
Maruti Suzuki sold 1,92,984 vehicles in March 2025, compared to 1,87,196 units in March 2024 — reflecting a 3% year-on-year growth. The company reported that domestic sales of passenger vehicles (PVs) reached 1,50,743 units in March 2025, slightly down from 1,52,718 units in the same month of the previous year.

Decline in Small Car Sales
Sales of small cars like the Alto and S-Presso dropped to 11,655 units last month, compared to 11,829 units in March 2024. Similarly, sales of compact cars such as the Baleno, Dzire, Ignis, and Swift decreased to 66,906 units, down from 69,844 units a year ago.
