Gaming and Thermal Efficiency: OnePlus 13 Takes the Lead in Cooling
Final Verdict: OnePlus 13 Edges Out OPPO Find X8 in Overall Performance
The OnePlus 13 (review) is among the few flagships this year with notable hardware upgrades, including a new chipset, a larger battery, and improved cameras. We’re kicking off a series of comparisons, starting with performance, to see how it stacks up against another strong contender, the OPPO Find X8 (review).
We evaluated both phones through benchmark scores and real-world usage for this test. We used AnTuTu and Geekbench for overall performance measurement and the Burnout benchmark to assess sustained peak performance. In addition, we tested gaming performance, tracking average FPS and temperature changes. Here’s how they compare:
Verdict
The OnePlus 13 scores a close win in performance, mainly due to its better thermal efficiency while gaming and higher AnTuTu scores. The OPPO Find X8 also holds up well, delivering similar gaming performance and handling stress better.
Real-world context: In real-world use, the difference in Geekbench scores isn’t significant enough to impact actual performance.
Winner: Tied
AnTuTu
AnTuTu assesses a smartphone’s CPU, GPU, memory, and overall user experience (higher is better)
The AnTuTu benchmark is a widely used tool for measuring a smartphone’s overall performance by testing various aspects like CPU, GPU, memory, and user experience. The OnePlus 13 scores a good lead over the OPPO Find X8 in the test and delivers better results in parameters like CPU, memory, and user experience.
Real-world context: The OnePlus 13 delivers better overall performance than the OPPO Find X8 in aspects like CPU, memory, and user experience. This can contribute to a slight advantage in gaming for the OnePlus 13.
Winner: OnePlus 13
CPU throttle
CPU Throttle assesses sustained performance under heavy load (higher is better)
For the CPU throttle test, we use the Burnout benchmark app to assess the sustained performance output. This value reflects how well-optimised a phone really is when it performs under heavy stress. The OPPO Find X8’s performance output is ahead of its competitor by a decent margin, which implies it’s a better performer under stress.
Real-world context: The OPPO Find X8’s performance under stress is a notch higher than the OnePlus 13. To put it simply, it can affect demanding tasks like gaming or editing, where it will deliver slightly better performance than the OnePlus 13.
Winner: OPPO Find X8
Gaming test
Average FPS during 30 minutes of gameplay (higher is better)
There are a few things better than games to test the real-world performance of a smartphone. We put both phones through a gauntlet playing titles like BGMI, COD: Mobile, and Real Racing 3 to gauge their performance output.
Keep in mind that the OnePlus 13’s scores are an average of over 30 minutes, while the OPPO Find X8’s scores are readings taken at the instance. That is because our monitoring tool is incompatible with the new MediaTek Dimensity 9400. Overall, their gaming performance is on par with each other, and you’d hardly notice a major difference from the naked eye.
Thermal performance
Temperature increase after 30 minutes of gaming (lower is better)
Both phones stay relatively cool while gaming, which is something to appreciate. The OnePlus 13, however, goes a step beyond and maintains exceptionally low temperatures even in demanding titles, which makes it an easy winner here.
Real-world context: There’s not a significant difference in the gaming performance of the phones as they both deliver roughly the same output. The main difference here is their cooling efficiency, a parameter where the OnePlus 13 is an excellent performer.
Winner: OnePlus 13
Final verdict
The OnePlus 13 scores a narrow victory against the OPPO Find X8 in our performance comparison. The former scores higher in the AnTuTu benchmark test and has better thermal efficiency while gaming. The OPPO Find X8 is a great performer in its own right, as it has better-sustained performance output and matches the gaming performance of its competitors. If you’re looking for a flagship device with top-notch performance, the OnePlus 13 is the better choice. Both smartphones come with a sticker price starting at Rs 69,999.
