OnePlus Open 2 Won’t Be Launching This Year: Here’s Why

OnePlus has confirmed that it will not be releasing the OnePlus Open 2 in 2025, despite the popularity of its flagship foldable phone, the OnePlus Open, which launched in 2023. Although the company released an iterative Apex Edition in 2024, fans had been hoping for the launch of the next-generation foldable device this year. However, OnePlus has other plans.

No OnePlus Open 2 in 2025: Official Announcement

In a community post, Vale G, the OnePlus Open product manager, explained that the company has decided “not to release a foldable this year.” He added that OnePlus is focused on “setting new benchmarks and challenging the status quo across all product categories,” which is why the OnePlus Open 2 will not be released this year.

Vale also pointed out that OnePlus’s sister brand, OPPO, will be taking the lead in the foldable category for the time being. OPPO is set to globally launch the OPPO Find N5 foldable on February 20th, 2025. While OnePlus will not release a foldable this year, Vale reassured fans that the brand is still committed to foldable technology and will incorporate OPPO’s foldable innovations into future OnePlus products.

What This Means for Current OnePlus Open Users

For those who already own the OnePlus Open, there is no need to worry. OnePlus assured users that “nothing changes” for current owners. The company will continue providing software updates, security patches, and after-sales service, so existing OnePlus Open users will still receive ongoing support.

What to Expect from the OPPO Find N5

For those interested in a new foldable device, the upcoming OPPO Find N5 is set to be an exciting option. The OPPO Find N5 will be the first foldable phone to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, ensuring top-tier performance. The device will come in multiple memory configurations: 12GB + 256GB, 16GB + 512GB, and 16GB + 1TB.

The Find N5 will be powered by a 5,600mAh battery, which is larger than the one in the previous Find N3 model. It is also teased to be the thinnest foldable phone globally. In terms of design, the OPPO Find N5 will feature a 3D titanium alloy hinge and an IPX9 water resistance rating.

The Find N5 will be available in two color options: Misty White and Cosmic Black. The phone will feature a 50MP camera system with Hasselblad tuning, a telephoto macro lens, 80W wired charging, and 50W wireless charging.

Additionally, the OPPO Find N5 will offer built-in support for the Deepseek R1 AI chatbot. The device may also come bundled with a faux leather case, a USB-A to USB-C cable, and a Type-G adapter, making it a complete package for foldable enthusiasts.

Conclusion

Although OnePlus will not release a new foldable this year, the foldable market is still moving forward with OPPO’s upcoming Find N5. OnePlus fans will have to wait a little longer for the next generation of foldable devices, but the future remains promising for foldable tech from both OnePlus and OPPO.
