The Gujarat government has appointed Piyush Patel as the new Director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). The state home ministry issued an official notification today confirming his appointment.

Earlier, the Gujarat government had requested the central government to repatriate Patel from BSF to the Gujarat cadre. After completing his tenure, he was relieved of his duties and has now returned to Gujarat to assume his new role.

Patel previously served as an Inspector General (IG) in the Border Security Force (BSF). The Union Home Ministry had earlier informed the Gujarat Chief Secretary that Patel had been assigned the responsibility of IG in BSF and that his maximum tenure on deputation would be five years. The letter requested the Gujarat government to relieve him from his state duties so he could immediately take up his BSF assignment.

Born in 1971 in Ahmedabad, Patel holds a BE degree in Electronics and Communication. He has held several key positions, including IG of Surat Range and Additional Director General of Police. He has been posted in BSF twice—first in 2013 as Deputy Inspector General (DIG), where he served until 2016. He has also served as IG of the Armed Unit in Gandhinagar.

With his extensive experience in law enforcement, Patel’s appointment as ACB Director is expected to enhance Gujarat’s anti-corruption efforts.
