Royal Enfield Introduces Its First Electric Bike in India: Flying Flea C6 Set to Cover 200 km on a Single Charge with Advanced Safety Features, Expected at ₹4.5 Lakh
Indian two-wheeler giant Royal Enfield has unveiled its inaugural electric motorcycle for the domestic market – the Flying Flea C6. Revealed at the prestigious EICMA 2024 automotive show in Milan, Italy, this electric bike marks a significant departure from the brand’s traditional petrol-powered models.
Inspired by the original Flying Flea, which was built for the British Army during World War II, the Flying Flea C6 carries a distinctive retro design. Although currently in its concept phase and under development, the bike is set to feature a motor with power comparable to that of a 300cc internal combustion engine, promising a range of up to 200 kilometers on a single charge. Specific details about the battery and motor specifications have yet to be disclosed.
Expected to hit the market in 2026, the Flying Flea C6 is projected to carry a starting price of around ₹4.5 lakh and is estimated to weigh approximately 100 kilograms, making it a strong contender in the high-range electric bike segment.
Advanced Safety and Connectivity Features
The bike comes equipped with a round TFT console—reminiscent of those found on the Himalayan 450 and Garilla 450, yet with a unique layout. This console offers smartphone connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, and displays crucial information including speed, trip meter, battery status, and range. In terms of safety, the Flying Flea C6 is pioneering for Royal Enfield as it integrates traction control, cornering ABS, cruise control, and five distinct riding modes to ensure a secure riding experience.
Retro-Inspired Design with Modern Enhancements
The design of the Flying Flea C6 pays homage to Royal Enfield’s heritage. Drawing inspiration from the vintage Flying Flea motorcycle—a 125cc single-cylinder, two-stroke model used during World War II—the bike features a classic retro aesthetic with modern twists. Instead of a conventional engine, the bike houses a battery pack, lending it a sporty yet timeless look. Notable design elements include a round LED headlamp, LED tail-lamp, integrated indicators, and a circular LED speedometer. The bike also features a single-piece shotgun-style seat, reminiscent of the iconic Shotgun 650, with an option for an additional rear seat.
Enhanced Safety with an Emergency Switch
For added rider security, an emergency safety switch is mounted on the tank. The instrument cluster, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon QWM2290 processor, features a 3.5-inch TFT touch panel that displays essential data such as speed, battery charge, range, and trip meter. This system supports 4G, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi connectivity, ensuring a seamless integration of technology and safety.
Additional features include multiple riding modes—Eco, Rain, Tour, Performance, and Custom—along with cruise control, over-the-air (OTA) software updates, keyless ignition, and robust traction control. Together, these features underscore Royal Enfield’s commitment to innovation and rider safety.
With its unique blend of retro styling and cutting-edge technology, the Flying Flea C6 is poised to redefine the electric bike landscape in India, staying true to Royal Enfield’s legacy of producing robust, stylish motorcycles while paving the way for a cleaner, sustainable future.
