Samsung CEO Han Jong-hee Passes Away at 63 Due to a Heart Attack; Pioneered the Company’s Global Leadership in the TV Business

Samsung Electronics’ co-CEO, Han Jong-hee, has passed away at the age of 63 after suffering a heart attack while undergoing treatment at a hospital. His funeral is expected to take place on Thursday at Samsung Medical Center in southern Seoul.

Han served as the head of Samsung’s Consumer Electronics and Mobile Devices division. In 2022, he was appointed Vice Chairman and CEO of Samsung Electronics and was also a member of the company’s board. Samsung has yet to announce his successor.

In a statement honoring Han, Samsung acknowledged his immense contributions to the company, highlighting his 37-year-long dedication to making Samsung’s TV business a global leader. As the head of the electronics and devices division, he played a crucial role in driving the company’s growth despite challenging market conditions.

Han Warned of Economic Challenges in 2025

According to a Reuters report, during last week’s annual investor meeting, Han apologized for Samsung’s weak stock performance. He also predicted that 2025 would be a challenging year due to economic uncertainties in major global markets.

Han’s Journey with Samsung Began in 1988

Born in 1962, Han earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from Inha University. He joined Samsung Electronics in 1988, starting in the Visual Display division. Over the years, he became a key figure in the development and expansion of Samsung’s TV business, establishing it as a global industry leader.
