Nashik, Maharashtra, April 14 2025: A major cultural milestone is set to take place in the city of Nashik with the inauguration of the Sardar Godaji Jagtap Museum this coming October 2025. Built in honor of one of the earliest and fiercest warriors of the Maratha Empire, the museum is dedicated to preserving the valor and legacy of Sardar Godaji Jagtap, a key military commander and trusted aide of Shree Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
The museum stands proudly at Mangalmurti Bunglow, Trimurti Dutta Police Housing Society, Panchavati, Nashik — a site chosen for its historical and ancestral connection to the warrior’s lineage. Visitors will walk through exhibits that span centuries of Maratha martial tradition, including rare weapons like the Dandpatta, Talwar, Khanda, and the Wagh Nakh.
Behind this vision is Anil Vasantrao Jagtap, a retired CID fingerprint expert and a direct descendant of Sardar Godaji Jagtap. Fueled by pride and legacy, he has spent years collecting, restoring, and preserving ancestral weapons and artifacts passed down through generations. The museum will showcase items such as battlefield weapons, traditional armor, archival records, and portraits that celebrate the Maratha code of honor and combat.
Sardar Godaji Jagtap’s story is one of grit and devotion. From slaying the Adilshahi general Musakhan in close combat, to defending Chattrapati Rajaram Maharaj during the Mughal siege, his exploits remain etched in the chronicles of Maratha history. He was a Deshmukh of ten villages, a defender of Swarajya, and a symbol of unshakable loyalty. His Samadhi at the banks of the Karha river in Saswad is a revered pilgrimage site for those who know his story.
Alongside the museum, guests will be able to experience the Godaji Souvenir Store, powered by the world-renowned Lonewolf37 Merchandise. This exclusive store will offer hand-crafted memorabilia, replica Maratha weaponry, books, and merchandise that celebrates indigenous history and craftsmanship. The shop will also be available online via the museum’s official website: https://godajijagtapmusem.com.
The museum will be open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with free entry for children under 13. It promises to be a powerful experience for patriots, historians, school groups, and tourists alike — shining a light on unsung heroes of the Maratha Empire.
This initiative is not just a museum; it is a mission to ignite cultural pride in a new generation.
