Bengaluru witnessed severe flooding on Sunday after receiving over 110 mm of rainfall, leading to widespread waterlogging and submerged vehicles. A 35-year-old woman died in the Mahadevapura area after a wall collapsed due to the heavy downpour. The city’s Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert, warning of more heavy rains and winds gusting at 50-60 km/h until the weekend.

14 States on Storm and Rain Alert; Heatwave Continues in Rajasthan

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued storm and rain warnings for 14 states, including Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand, with severe thunderstorms and hail predicted in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. In Rajasthan, extreme heat continues, with Jaipur experiencing higher temperatures than Jodhpur, Barmer, and Jaisalmer. The state remains under an orange alert for heat for the next four days.

Monsoon Advances Over Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal; Heavy Rains Expected in Northeast and South India

The southwest monsoon has advanced over parts of the south Arabian Sea, Maldives, Comorin region, and Andaman Islands, according to the IMD. The monsoon is expected to further progress over the central Bay of Bengal and northeastern regions within the next three to four days. Heavy rainfall is predicted in Assam, Meghalaya, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu in the coming days.

  • May 21: Intense rainfall is likely in Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, Assam, and West Bengal. Heatwave warnings persist in West Rajasthan.

State-Wise Weather Updates:

  • Haryana: Yellow alert for storms; rain is likely in 10 districts, providing some relief from the heat.

  • Chhattisgarh: Thunderstorms and strong winds of up to 50 km/h are predicted until May 21, especially in Raipur and Durg.

  • Himachal Pradesh: Heavy rain and hail warnings have been issued. Power outages were reported in Kangra and Shimla as storms hit the region early Monday morning.

Authorities urge residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions as adverse weather conditions persist across multiple states.
