Family Politics, Emergency, and National Growth: PM Modi’s Speech in Rajya Sabha

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Rajya Sabha in response to the motion of thanks on the President’s speech. He expressed gratitude for the President’s detailed address, stating that the speech not only highlighted the country’s progress but also provided direction for the future. He emphasized that the President’s speech was motivational, impactful, and served as a guiding force for the future.

He said, “Much has been discussed about ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’. What’s the issue with it? This is our collective responsibility. As for Congress, expecting anything from them regarding this is a big mistake. This idea is beyond their comprehension and doesn’t fit their roadmap. Such a large party has dedicated itself to one family.”

Modi continued, “In Congress’s model, family comes first. The people of the country have given us a chance to serve them for the third time. This shows that the people have tested, understood, and supported our development model. If I were to describe our model in one word, it would be ‘Nation First.’ With this noble sentiment, I have strived to serve with this principle in my speech, behavior, and policies.”

Key Points from PM Modi’s Speech

Family Politics:
PM Modi stated, “Such a large party has dedicated itself to one family. In Congress’s model, family comes first. The people of the country have given us the opportunity to serve them for the third time. This reflects that the people have tested, understood, and supported our model. Our model is ‘Nation First.’ With this spirit, we work on national policies.”

Emergency:
PM Modi highlighted the Emergency period, stating, “During the Emergency, everything was done for power and pleasure. Famous artist Dev Anand was asked to support the Emergency but he refused. As a result, Dev Anand’s movies were banned on Doordarshan. Kishore Kumar also refused to sing for Congress. In retaliation, Congress imposed a ban on Kishore Kumar’s songs on All India Radio.”

Baba Saheb Ambedkar:
PM Modi pointed out Congress’s attitude towards Baba Saheb Ambedkar, stating, “Congress displayed great hatred and anger towards Baba Saheb. This is well-documented. What was done to defeat Baba Saheb twice in elections to suppress this anger? Baba Saheb was never considered deserving of the Bharat Ratna. Yet today, Congress is forced to say Jai Bhim, while their mouths are dry.”

Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas:
PM Modi emphasized that his government’s mantra has always been ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ (Collective effort, inclusive growth). He said, “Our model of governance is built on this principle. We live by it. Over the last decade, we’ve implemented policies that embody this vision at every level. Expecting ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ from Congress would be a mistake as it is beyond their comprehension.”

Make in India:
He discussed India’s progress, saying, “Today, India is the second-largest mobile manufacturer in the world. Previously, we imported most of our phones, but now we have established ourselves as mobile exporters. India is now the second-largest steel manufacturer in the world. We have seen significant growth in the export of toys, medicines, herbs, and other products. The turnover of Khadi and rural industries has crossed Rs. 1.5 lakh crore.”
