Firefighters Use 40 Lakh Liters of Water; Cooling Operations Still Ongoing

A devastating fire erupted in the basement of Surat’s Shivshakti Textile Market on February 25. Despite relentless efforts by the fire department, the flames were finally brought under control after nearly 30 hours. However, the fire reignited around 7 AM on February 26, rapidly intensifying and causing severe destruction. Drone footage captured the terrifying visuals of the raging inferno overnight.

Top officials, including the municipal commissioner, district collector, and police commissioner, visited the site to assess the situation. The fire engulfed over 800 shops, out of which nearly 450 were completely reduced to ashes. Traders estimate losses ranging from ₹30 to ₹40 crore.

More than 40 fire tenders worked tirelessly, using over 40 lakh liters of water to control the blaze. At present, cooling operations are underway to prevent any further outbreaks.
