Actor-Director Manoj Bharathiraja Passes Away Due to Heart Attack: Had Underwent Bypass Surgery a Week Ago, Tamil Nadu CM and Celebrities Express Condolences

South Indian actor and renowned film director Bharathiraja’s son, actor-director Manoj Bharathiraja, has passed away at the age of 48. He suffered a heart attack on Tuesday evening in Chennai and succumbed to it. Just a few days ago, he had undergone heart surgery. The news of his untimely demise has left the entire film industry in shock.

Manoj Bharathiraja Passes Away at 48

The South Indian Actors Association, Nadigar Sangam, confirmed Manoj Bharathiraja’s passing on the social media platform X. Manoj began his film career with Taj Mahal, a movie directed by his father, in which he played the lead role.

Tamil Nadu CM and Several Leaders Express Condolences

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, along with several celebrities from the film industry, expressed grief over Manoj Bharathiraja’s passing. The CM shared a post on X, stating, “Manoj Bharathiraja made a name for himself through his father’s directorial film Taj Mahal. Later, he acted in movies like Samuthiram, Alli Arjuna, and Varushamellam Vasantham. He also directed several films. My heartfelt condolences to Bharathiraja, his family members, and his friends in the film industry.”

Tamil Manila Congress President G.K. Vasan and Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai also expressed their condolences.

Celebrities Express Grief

Actress Khushbu Sundar shared her sorrow, saying, “It is heartbreaking to hear that Manoj is no longer with us. Losing him at such a young age is tragic. May God give strength to his father, Thiru Bharathiraja, and his family. Manoj, we will miss you.”

Actor Thyagarajan also mourned his loss, saying, “I have known Manoj since childhood. I watched him grow up, and he had immense respect for his father.”

Acting Career Began in 1999

Manoj Bharathiraja started his acting career in 1999 with the Tamil film Taj Mahal, directed by his father. He later appeared in films like Era Neelam and Varushamellam Vasantham.

Directorial Debut in 2023

In 2023, Manoj made his directorial debut with the romantic drama Margazhi Thingal. His last appearance was in 2024 in Prime Video’s Snakes and Ladders.
