Mumbai: When discussing the highest-grossing films of 2024, titles like Pushpa 2, Kalki 2898 AD, and Stree 2 might instantly come to mind. However, the surprising reality is that the record for the most profitable Indian film of 2024 belongs to the Malayalam movie Premalu.
Made on a modest budget of just ₹3 crore, this film featuring debut actors has generated a staggering profit of ₹136 crore, earning 45 times its production cost.
In comparison, Pushpa 2 earned ₹1,800 crore at the box office, but its production budget was ₹350 crore, making its earnings approximately five times the investment. Similarly, Kalki 2898 AD doubled its budget, while Stree 2, made on a ₹90 crore budget, grossed ₹875 crore—about ten times its investment.
Premalu has proven that massive profits at the box office do not require big stars or extravagant budgets. Instead, a compelling story and strong performances can win hearts and deliver profits far exceeding the production budget.
