On Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing the country to exit the World Health Organization. While signing the order, Trump said, “This is a very big thing.” WHO, as an international organization, plays a crucial role in providing aid and responding to global health emergencies. The United States is one of WHO’s major funders. America became a member of WHO in 1948.

WHO plays a vital role in combating global health threats by focusing on infectious diseases and humanitarian crises. However, America’s exit from the organization could significantly impact WHO’s funding. In the fiscal year 2024-25, the U.S. provided $662 million to WHO.
