India to Face New Zealand in Champions Trophy Final on March 9
BCCI Likely to Reinstate Shreyas Iyer in Central Contract After Stellar Champions Trophy Performance
BCCI Central Contract for Cricketers
Under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, Team India has delivered an outstanding performance in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. One of the tournament’s standout players, Shreyas Iyer, is likely to receive a significant reward from the BCCI after the competition. The board will assess players’ performances after the final match and then announce the central contract list, where Iyer is expected to make a comeback.
Last year, the BCCI announced its central contract list on February 28, but this year, the process has been delayed due to the Champions Trophy. According to media reports, Shreyas Iyer is likely to be included in the contract list, thanks to his exceptional form. In the semi-final, Iyer even won the Best Fielder of the Match award for his outstanding fielding efforts.
Iyer Was Dropped from Last Year’s Central Contract List
In 2023, Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were excluded from the BCCI’s central contract list due to their inconsistent performances in domestic cricket. While Ishan Kishan has not played international cricket since November 2023, Iyer has continued to feature in India’s ODI squad. Given his recent performances, he is now expected to be reinstated in the contract list.
Understanding the BCCI Central Contract System
The BCCI releases a central contract list annually, determining the annual salaries of Indian cricketers. The contract system is divided into four categories:
A+ Category – ₹7 crore per year
A Category – ₹5 crore per year
B Category – ₹3 crore per year
C Category – ₹1 crore per year
Selection into these categories is based on specific criteria. The A+ category is reserved for players who participate in all three formats of the game (Tests, ODIs, and T20Is).
India to Face New Zealand in the Champions Trophy Final on March 9
India secured a spot in the Champions Trophy final by defeating Australia by four wickets in the semi-final. The final match will be played on March 9 (Sunday) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, where India will take on New Zealand. Fans are eagerly anticipating strong performances from players like Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Varun Chakravarthy, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Hardik Pandya, hoping they will lead the team to victory.
BCCI to Announce Central Contract List After Champions Trophy
As of now, the A+ category includes Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah. However, with Rohit, Kohli, and Jadeja retiring from T20 internationals last year, it remains uncertain whether they will retain their A+ contracts. Their recent performances in Test cricket have been under scrutiny, but their Champions Trophy performances could still secure them a spot in the top category.
BCCI’s Central Contract List Included 30 Players Last Year
Last year, 30 players were awarded central contracts by the BCCI. Later, Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel were also added to the list. Additionally, the BCCI introduced a fast-bowling contract for players like Akash Deep, Yash Dayal, Umran Malik, Vijaykumar Vyshak, and Vidwath Kaverappa.
With the Champions Trophy reaching its final stage, the BCCI is expected to finalize the contract list soon, and Shreyas Iyer is likely to be one of the biggest beneficiaries.
