India’s Development Will Benefit the World: Bill Gates Says India Will Emerge as a Developed Nation by 2047
Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates stated that India’s development will have a positive impact on the entire world. Speaking at an event in Mumbai on Thursday, he praised the country’s rapid pace of innovation.
Gates emphasized that India’s transformation into a developed nation by 2047 would not only benefit the country itself but also have a far-reaching impact globally. He remarked, “India’s prioritization of key sectors like healthcare and education has created significant positive momentum.”
Gates Expresses Optimism About India’s Economic Growth
Describing India’s economic growth prospects as promising, Gates said, “It’s a good situation when the discussion is whether the growth rate will be 5% or 10%.” However, he expressed skepticism about India reaching a 10% growth rate while affirming that it would not fall below 5%.
Praises India’s AI Development Strategy
Gates pointed out that economic expansion would enable increased government investment in healthcare and education, unlocking significant opportunities. Speaking on Artificial Intelligence (AI), he highlighted its potential to drive transformative changes but dismissed fears that AI would eliminate jobs.
He also lauded India’s AI development approach, commending its adoption of an open-source foundational model tailored to local needs, including support for Indian languages.
Applauds India’s Digital Public Infrastructure
Gates praised India’s digital public infrastructure, including Aadhaar and UPI, calling it one of the country’s most significant contributions to the world.
“Every time I visit India, I see numerous companies leveraging this infrastructure—whether in banking, government benefits, or stock trading. Innovation in India is advancing faster than I anticipated,” he remarked.

Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, is currently the world’s 11th richest person. According to Forbes, his net worth stands at $107.1 billion (approximately ₹9.21 lakh crore). Gates founded Microsoft in 1975 and served as the company’s CEO until 2000.
