Gujarat Titans Sold Just 5 Days Before IPL 2025: Know Which Gujarati Company Bought the Team

A Gujarat-based company has acquired a 67% stake, gaining control of the franchise.

With just days remaining for the start of the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, a major development has taken place. Former champions Gujarat Titans have been sold just five days before the tournament begins. On Monday, March 17, Gujarat-based Torrent Group completed the acquisition of the franchise.

Gujarat Titans joined the IPL in 2021 when CVC Capital acquired the team for ₹5,600 crore. Under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy, the team stunned everyone by winning the title in its debut season in 2022. They also reached the final in the previous season.

According to news agency PTI, Ahmedabad-based Torrent Group, one of India’s leading companies in the power and pharmaceutical sectors, announced the completion of the franchise acquisition on Monday. However, Torrent Group has not acquired the entire 100% stake in the franchise. Reports indicate that CVC Capital’s subsidiary, Irelia Sports India Pvt Ltd, was managing the team. Now, Torrent Group has purchased a 67% stake, gaining control of the franchise.

The financial details of the deal have not been officially disclosed. However, according to a report by Moneycontrol, Gujarat Titans’ current valuation is estimated to be around ₹7,500 crore. Based on this, Torrent Group is expected to have paid approximately ₹5,025 crore for its stake. CVC Capital will continue to hold a 33% stake in the team.

Notably, in the 2021 BCCI-organized e-auction, CVC Capital had placed the highest bid for the Ahmedabad franchise, securing it for ₹5,625 crore. This made Gujarat Titans the second most expensive franchise in IPL history. The Lucknow franchise was acquired by the Goenka Group for over ₹7,000 crore, making it the most expensive team.

Torrent Group had announced the deal agreement on February 12. However, as far as the team is concerned, this ownership change will not affect its management for the current season. Shubman Gill will continue as captain, having taken over last season. Ashish Nehra will remain the head coach, while Vikram Solanki will continue as the Director of Cricket. This means Gujarat Titans will enter IPL 2025 under new ownership but with the same enthusiasm and determination.
