In a key judicial development, Justices Biren Vaishnav Anjaria, Vijay Bishnoi, and Murlidhar Chandurkar were sworn in as Supreme Court judges on Monday, bringing the apex court’s working strength to its full sanctioned capacity of 34 judges. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud in a brief ceremony held at the Supreme Court premises.
The appointments were made following the approval of the President of India on the recommendations of the Supreme Court Collegium. All three justices bring with them extensive experience from their respective high courts—Justice Anjaria from Gujarat High Court, Justice Bishnoi from Rajasthan High Court, and Justice Chandurkar from Bombay High Court.
Their elevation comes at a crucial time when the Supreme Court is dealing with a heavy backlog of cases. According to legal experts, the full bench strength will significantly aid in faster adjudication and reducing pendency.
These appointments also reflect the court’s attempt to maintain regional representation and judicial diversity, as each of the new judges hails from a different zone of India.
This latest round of appointments is expected to enhance the efficiency and outreach of the judiciary, while also reinforcing public trust in the legal system.
