15-Year-Old in Surat Swallows Tack, Doctors Monitor as It Stays Near Intestines
Boy in Surat Swallows Tack During Play, Hospitalized for Observation and Treatment
A shocking incident has been reported from Limbayat, Surat, where a 15-year-old boy accidentally swallowed a tack while playing. The incident occurred on Tuesday night, when Adnan Ajit Khan (15), living in Limbayat, was playing with other children near his home. While holding the tack in his fist, he accidentally brought it to his mouth and inhaled it. Out of fear, he did not inform anyone and went to sleep that night. It was only the next morning that he told his mother about the pain in his throat.
The family immediately rushed him to Civil Hospital with the help of 108 ambulance services, where doctors were shocked after an X-ray revealed that the tack was lodged near his small intestine. Surgeons decided to admit him, and although the tack was positioned horizontally in the intestines, the doctors assured the family that there was no immediate cause for concern.
Doctors explained that such foreign objects, when lodged in the throat or intestines, are typically expelled naturally through the digestive system, usually via stool. They recommended giving the boy soft food, particularly bananas, to help the tack move through his system. In most cases, such objects are expelled through the stool with a 99% success rate.
The family has been advised to monitor Adnan’s condition closely, and health experts are hopeful that the tack will pass without further complications.
