A controversial Facebook post by Chintan Mehta, a youth from Navarangpura village in Patdi Taluka, triggered outrage within the Congress party and the Thakor community. Mehta had made an offensive comment against Congress MP Geniben Thakor on his Facebook account, which went viral, sparking widespread anger. Following backlash, Mehta issued a public apology to both the Thakor community and the Congress and promptly deleted the post.
What Was the Issue?
Chintan Mehta, using his Facebook account named “C.M. Sarkar,” posted a derogatory remark targeting Congress MP Geniben Thakor in connection with the Waqf Board Amendment Bill. His use of offensive language led to strong reactions.
In response, protests erupted at the Patdi crossroads, led by former Congress MLA Naushad Solanki and prominent leaders from the Thakor community. Demonstrators staged a roadblock, resulting in significant traffic disruptions. Police arrived at the scene and attempted to calm the situation and disperse the crowd.
Despite police intervention, the protest continued. Authorities eventually detained around 20 individuals, including Naushad Solanki, and took them to the police station. Protest leaders demanded strict legal action against Chintan Mehta and insisted he make a public apology.
Additionally, Natuji Prabhuji Thakor of Kathada village filed a formal cyber complaint against Mehta and submitted a written application at the Patdi police station seeking legal action. Protestors warned that if appropriate steps were not taken, they would intensify their agitation in the coming days.
