Emergency Measures Implemented to Manage Crowds at Prayagraj Junction
The heavy crowd at the Kumbh Mela is causing long traffic jams, with some stretches extending 10 to 15 kilometers. Vehicles are stuck in several places, and the entire city is facing traffic congestion.
To manage the crowd at Prayagraj Junction, an emergency crowd management plan has been implemented. Passengers traveling by train are now being allowed to enter the station from the outskirts of the city.
On roads leading to Prayagraj from Varanasi, Lucknow, Kanpur, and Rewa, there are traffic jams stretching up to 10 kilometers. Devotees returning from Lucknow shared that their car has been stuck in a traffic jam at Malkha village for over three hours.
Travelers coming from Lucknow to Prayagraj have to face a traffic jam nearly 30 kilometers from Nawabganj. The Rewa Road from Gohaniya is experiencing severe traffic, with a jam extending around 16 kilometers from Naini Old Bridge. There is also a traffic jam on the Sarai Inayat Jhunsi route, used by people coming from Varanasi, which stretches 12 to 15 kilometers.
Sunday marked the 28th day of the Kumbh Mela. Since January 13, 42 crore devotees have bathed at the Sangam. There has been heavy crowding at the Sangam from early morning. Devotees are not allowed to linger at the Sangam and are being escorted out after taking their holy dip.
Trains heading to the Kumbh Mela are also experiencing severe crowding. In Varanasi, when there was no space in the train, some women climbed into the engine and closed the gate, forcing the police to remove them. In Hardoi, devotees became angry when the coach door wasn’t opened, leading to chaos and severe damage to the train.
