India Plans Strong Response to Pahalgam Attack; CCS, CCPA, and Cabinet Meetings Scheduled

Pahalgam Terror Attack: In the wake of the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam, the Indian government is preparing for a strong response against Pakistan. According to sources, four high-level meetings will be held tomorrow under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during which stricter actions may be finalized, and a detailed blueprint is reportedly ready.

The first of these meetings — the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) — will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Chaired by PM Modi, this session will focus on assessing and strengthening security preparedness. This marks the second CCS meeting following the deadly Pahalgam attack that occurred on April 22.

Who Will Attend?

Following the CCS meeting, the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA), also chaired by Prime Minister Modi, will convene. Expected participants include Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, Health Minister JP Nadda, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and other key Union ministers such as Jitan Ram Manjhi, Sarbananda Sonowal, and Rajmohan Naidu.

PM Modi is also scheduled to attend a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), which will be followed by a full Cabinet meeting later in the day.

Second CCS Meeting Post-Pahalgam Attack

This will be the second CCS meeting after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where three terrorists launched a deadly ambush. The government is seeking detailed inputs from security agencies regarding the situation. Alongside discussions on national security, deliberations are also expected on the Indus Waters Treaty and how India should proceed regarding potential restrictions.

Monday’s Developments

On Monday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met with PM Modi to discuss the situation. Prior to this, Singh had also conferred with the Army Chief for a detailed briefing. Most information related to these high-level meetings has been kept confidential due to national security sensitivities.

The NIA, which is leading the investigation, has so far recorded statements from 25 individuals, including victims and eyewitnesses. Initial findings reveal that terrorists were strategically positioned at both the entry and exit points of the Baisaran valley, making it impossible for the victims to escape. A total of three terrorists carried out the massacre, with one guarding the exit route.
